From Kyle Hopkins in Anchorage –
A man who blasted bear spray into a police officer’s face during a traffic stop late Saturday night in Midtown has been arrested on felony eluding and assault charges.
A man accused of trying to run down an officer about two hours later in South Anchorage is under arrest too.
That according to Anchorage police, who initially thought the two men — who look alike and both had warrants out for their arrest — were the same guy. All told, four people have been arrested following a sequence of violent traffic stops and hot pursuits in Anchorage that included an officer firing on, but missing, one of the suspects.

Three unrelated killings in a single weekend, including a stabbing death near downtown early Sunday, boosted the number of homicides in Anchorage so far this year to an even dozen.
The recent cases include a shootout on Muldoon Road earlier in October, a fatal stabbing Friday in South Anchorage, and a shooting at the Millennium Alaskan Hotel in Spenard on Saturday. Add in Sunday’s stabbing, and the number of Anchorage homicide victims in 2011 nearly doubled in less than a month.
